Findings from published scientific literature indicates that resveratrol may be the most effective plant extract for maintaining optimal health.
Red wine contains resveratrol, but the quantity varies depending on where the grapes are grown, the time of harvest, and other factors. After years of relentless research, a standardized resveratrol extract is now available as a dietary supplement. This whole grape extract contains a spectrum of polyphenols that are naturally contained in red wine such as proanthocyandins, anthocyanins, flavonoids, etc.
What is Resveratrol?
Resveratrol (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a substance found in the skins of certain red grapes, in peanuts, blueberries, some pines (Scots pine, eastern white pine) and the roots and stalks of Japanese knotweed (hu zhang in China) and giant knotweed. Resveratrol is an antibiotic, produced by plants that are under attack to help protect themselves from damage. For example, Resveratrol is produced by grapes and other plants to protect the plant against fungus, and disease. The supplement, first sourced as ground dried red grape skins, has shifted to include certain of the knotweeds as a raw material. Many believe that Resveratrol may have anti-aging properties because of scientific studies which have had positive results. This has caused the substance called Resveratrol, derived from Japanese knotweed, to be marketed as a nutritional supplement. So far, studies conducted on non-human subjects have provided good evidence for claims that Resveratrol may lead to longer life.
